Angling Iceland

Huge fish from the East Rangá

While many Icelandic rivers have been affected by long draughts, the river East Rangá has plenty of water and has been prolific since starting during mid-June. During the weekend, the wife of the June manager, Guðmundur Atli Ásgeirsson,  hooked and laded a huge cock fish, 100 cm with the girth to put it well over twenty pounds.

During the last week or so, several salmon from 100 to 108 cm have been landed on a few Icelandic rivers. The most recent was one of the most impressive, although it was not the biggest one. The angler, Aðalheiður Ormars felt, after landing the salmon, that she would hardly have a higher point during her angling career. The river East Rangá has for years now, been established as one of Iceland’s very best big fish rivers. It is a river kept ticking with huge smolt release programs. To make the multi winter salmons scenario, all the mws caught in June are kept for the hatchery.
